Essential Roles & Responsibilities

Trial Balance Entry. 3 columns, account # account description, and account balance. The credits go in as negative so you should always have a zero balance when entered.

• Grouping accounts.
• Calculating ratios/ratio analysis, and compare to industry averages.
• Theres a program called Smart E practice Aids where you enter the client information for an audit, and select what audit programs you want, and the audit programs are designed to agree with your management assertions. So this is basically filling in client information. we need help with this.
• Help set up an audit file with lead sheets, and audit programs.
• Set up test work papers. I will select a sample of receivables, inventory, payable, sales, expenses, and general journal entries. Need to enter samples into test spreadsheets.
• A decent accountant should be able to reconcile retained earnings so prepare an equity test page. Which some small companies you reconcile retained earnings, trace any distribution payments taken by the owner to bank statements, and document that there were no changes in ownership
• Expectations analysis. Put together a memo indicating what we think account balances will be and why. We tie this into our analytical procedures.
• Top down revenue test. I get every bank statement and verify that the bank reconciliations have been done properly. We add up all deposits, minus transfers, minus and loan or equity deposits, minus prior year receivables, add current year receivables, and that total should be close to revenue recorded in the general ledger.
• Financial statement preparation of balance sheet, income statement, statement of stockholders equity, and statement of cash flow.
• Prepare SOCF calculations with the prior year numbers.

Easier stuff

• Bookkeeping and data entry - Each month we will verify that bank reconciliations agree to General ledger balance at the end of the month, each credit card balance, receivable and payable aging agree to GL balance at end of the month. Verify that any distribution checks were taken out of retained earnings. Fixed Asset schedule at the end of the month agrees to GL balances. Notes payable balances agree to amortization tables.
• We may have you do an analysis of vendors my clients are using and research what other vendors are out there so we may be able to get better prices.
• Look for new customers and clients. Find out who they are with and how we can get them as customer or clients.
• Have you prepare memos of the Companies internal controls based on my notes.

Business Valuations

• Enter balance sheets and income statements into my business valuation template
• Have you update each business valuation report financial analysis section. Discuss the positives and negatives of the numbers.
• Write up of the ratio analysis and how it compares to industry averages.
• Maybe go to the Company website and copy and paste information about the Company into my word section of the report

Forensic Accounting

• You may be able to do similar for audits, help me set up my test work papers with my sample selections
• Help me with the report.
